Position Summary:
The Vice President - Investments, will be a key contributor of our growing credit team and will report to our Head of Corporate Credit. The role will be based in Brookfield's New York city offices at Brookfield Place.
This is a dynamic role with a flexible mandate. The scope of the mandate includes direct lending, private high grade and fund finance. While getting exposure to all facets of the business, the focus of this role will be on direct lending. The ideal candidate will be a team player that demonstrates exceptional communication skills, strong work ethic, collaborative mentality and an entrepreneurial attitude. The candidate will be expected to act as both a lead originator and underwriter for our direct lending business. An ideal background will be 8+ years of investment banking or buy side credit investing experience.
Responsibilities:
• Originate private credit transactions through sponsor and corporate coverage
• Lead underwriting process for new investments, managing junior/mid-level team members - this will include all aspects of fundamental analysis (i.e., financial modeling and analysis, 3rd party expert calls, review of 3rd party reports, etc.)
• Negotiate terms, credit agreements, commitment letters, etc.
• Present investments to screening committees and investment committee
• Manage and collaborate with the team(s) to ensure smooth executions - legal, accounting, compliance, operations, etc. Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree from leading institution
• 8+ years relevant work experience - investment banking or buy side private credit investing experience - with a focus on Industrials sectors
• Strong sponsor relationships, with a focus on core and upper middle market sponsors
• Master in Finance or Accounting, CPA, MBA and/or CFA is a plus
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present clearly and offer practical advice
• Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to operate independently
• Team-oriented with a commitment to shared success
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization
• Excellent judgement and analytical skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness
• Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines
